Project Steps
- Before you begin, remove the lid from the jewelry box. This will bale it easier to etch the box without damaging it.
- This design was etched in stages so the images could be arranged in closer proximity than the stencil borders would have permitted if done simultaneously. Additionally, it enables stencil images to be placed in closer proximity than the stencil borders would otherwise permit.
- This design used the hover and press method to place stencil images in spots where the necessary view is obscured by stencil borders.The technique is done by placing stencils sticky side up, holding the glass over the stencil and maneuvering it in air before pressing it down onto the stencil.
- If there is a beveled edge to any of the surfaces you are etching, stay inside that edge with your design. Do not place the stencil so the images will be on the bevel portion of the glass.
- After preparing the glass, place the full sized peacock stencil on the left side of the lid, the dram stencil in the lower right, and the star in the upper right corner.
- On the side panel, place the peacock head stencils on opposite sides so they are facing each other. Get them as far apart as possible.
- Follow the etching cream instructions to etch these onto the glass.
- Using the hover and press technique, position the forever stencil so it fits between the peacock tail and the word dream. Keep it slightly more elevated than the dream.
- Again using the hover and press technique, position the large feather on an angle between the peacock heads etched previously on the side panel.
- Follow the etching cream instructions to etch these onto the glass.
